A Parallel Implementation of a Correspondence-Finder for Uncalibrated Stereo Image Pairs

چکیده
We report on our experience with parallelizing a computer vision algorithm. The algorithm employs low-level image processing techniques which are relatively easy to parallelize and intermediate-level computer vision techniques which lack the regularity and locality of image processing algorithms. The application is an excellent candidate for use as a benchmark. We implement two parallel versions of this algorithm; the second one based on our experience with the first version. We program the parallel implementation in the Single Program, Multiple Data (SPMD) model using the MPI message passing interface. We evaluate our implementation on a four node IBM SP. Our results show excellent speedup numbers for the image processing portion and good speedups for most of the application. However, part of the application is inherently sequential. Our second parallel implementation is not only more efficient than the first, but it also has better speedup numbers. In addition, we suggest changes to our final parallel implementation that should improve its performance.

Implementation of Symmetric Dynamic Programming Stereo Matching Algorithm Using CUDA
Stereo correspondence is a computationally intensive procedure, real-time depth map generation for high resolution video is beyond the capability of mainstream CPUs available today. Similar to many other vision algorithms, there is a high degree of parallelism available in most of the correspondence algorithms, making multiprocessor architectures as an obvious choice. Here we describe the imple...
متن کاملInitial Disparity Estimation Using Sparse Matching for Wide-baseline Dense Stereo
We propose a triangulation based initialization method for dense disparity estimation from uncalibrated wide-baseline image pairs using sparse correspondences. The method includes: (a) sparse correspondence retrieval, (b) Delaunay triangulation and homography estimation, and (c) obtaining a dense initial disparity map to initialize dense stereo algorithms. Comparison with existing methods demon...
متن کاملReal-Time Stereo Vision Techniques
This PhD aims at the design and implementation of real-time hardware-based stereo vision systems. Stereo vision deals with images acquired by a stereo camera setup, where the disparity between the stereo images allows depth estimation within a scene. In the first part of my research a new hardwareefficient real time disparity map computation module was developed which involved a fully parallel-...
متن کاملStereo rectification of uncalibrated and heterogeneous images
In this paper, an algorithm for rectifying heterogeneous and uncalibrated pairs of stereo images is presented. In particular, a pair of images is captured by using a combination of static and dynamic cameras at unequal zoom, thus having different focal lengths and/or image resolutions. The rectification of such pairs of images is made in two steps. In the first step, image shrinking based on fo...
متن کاملUncalibrated Stereo Correspondence by Singular Value Decomposition
image analysis, feature correspondence, stereo, singular value, decomposition This paper presents a new simple method for achieving feature correspondence across a pair of images which requires no calibration information and draws from the method proposed by Scott and Longuet Higgins [8]. Despite the well-known combinatorial complexity of the problem, this work shows that an acceptably good sol...
